Description
A 1985 marine survey conducted by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) as part of the International Young Fish Survey. The survey collected station, catch, length, and biological data for Sole and Plaice across 124 stations on the UK's south coast between September 1 and 22, 1985. Operations recorded 41 different species using push nets and beam trawls.
Use Cases
Analyzing historical recruitment trends for Sole and Plaice based on the biological data collected.
Modeling small fish abundance distributions based on the catch and station data from 124 sampling points.
Comparing species composition and diversity from the 41 species recorded in the survey.
Strengths
Survey operations were conducted on 124 stations, providing a structured sampling framework.
Data includes biological information for two key commercial flatfish species (Sole and Plaice).
The survey recorded 41 different species, offering a view of species diversity.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
Data may reflect temporal and geographic bias inherent to a single survey in September 1985.
