Description
Surveys around the British Isles, predominantly the South and East coasts, were completed in late August and September from 1981 to 2010. This specific survey from September 1986 collected station, catch, length, and biological data for Sole and Plaice to evaluate recruitment and small fish abundance. The survey was undertaken by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) as part of the International Young Fish Survey.
Use Cases
Analyze recruitment trends for Sole and Plaice based on the biological data collected.
Model species distribution and abundance based on catch data from 229 stations.
Study community composition based on the 47 different species recorded.
Compare fishing gear efficiency based on the use of a 1.5m push net and a 2m beam trawl.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 229 stations, providing a detailed spatial sample.
47 different species were recorded, offering a view of community composition.
Data includes specific biological information for key commercial species (Sole and Plaice).
