Description
A 1992 fisheries survey conducted by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) as part of the North West Groundfish Survey. The survey recorded station, catch, length, and biological data for 83 species across 173 stations in the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel using a 4m beam trawl. Data was used to create abundance indices for EU regulations and ICES research, with additional aims to collect benthic, litter, temperature, salinity, and acoustic data.
Use Cases
Modeling groundfish abundance indices based on catch and length data.
Analyzing species composition and biodiversity in the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel based on the 83 recorded species.
Studying the relationship between environmental factors and fish populations based on collected water temperature and salinity data.
Investigating benthic community impacts based on the survey's stated aim to collect benthic data.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 173 stations, providing spatial coverage.
83 different species were recorded, indicating biodiversity sampling.
Data collection aimed at multiple variables including biological, environmental, and acoustic data.
