Description
A 1997 marine survey conducted by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) as part of the International Bottom Trawl Survey. The survey recorded data from 273 stations, catching 151 different species and collecting biological, temperature, salinity, and litter information. Operations took place aboard the Cirolana between August 12 and September 9, 1997.
Use Cases
Modeling fish species distribution and abundance based on trawl station data.
Analyzing stock composition estimates for commercial fish species mentioned in the survey.
Studying correlations between benthic catches and environmental factors like water temperature and salinity.
Supporting international fisheries management and EU data regulations compliance based on the survey's stated aims.
Strengths
Data collected from 273 distinct sampling stations, providing broad spatial coverage.
Records for 151 different species, indicating high taxonomic diversity.
Includes multiple data types: station, catch, length, biological, and environmental (temperature, salinity, litter).
Conducted as part of a standardized, ongoing international survey (IBTS), suggesting methodological consistency.
