Description
61 samples provide concentrations for 13 heavy metals, including arsenic, lead, and mercury, from the Atlantic margin of the UK Continental Shelf. Particle-size analysis was conducted on 68 sediment samples as part of a UK government Strategic Environmental Assessment. The data is presented in a spreadsheet format within an HTML report from the Department of Trade and Industry, now the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Use Cases
Modeling spatial distribution of marine contaminants based on heavy metal concentrations.
Analyzing sediment transport and composition based on particle-size data.
Establishing environmental baselines for regulatory impact assessments based on the SEA framework.
Correlating sediment characteristics with heavy metal presence for geochemical studies.
Strengths
Covers 13 specific heavy metals, providing a multi-element pollution profile.
Includes data from 61 samples for metals and 68 samples for sedimentology.
Originates from a government-led Strategic Environmental Assessment, suggesting a formal sampling protocol.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
