Description
Surveys around the British Isles, predominantly the South and East coasts, were completed in late August and early September. This survey from 2006 collected station, catch, length, and biological data for 76 species across 81 stations to evaluate the recruitment of Sole and Plaice. It was undertaken by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) as part of the International Young Fish Survey.
Use Cases
Modeling recruitment patterns of Sole and Plaice based on the biological data collected.
Analyzing species abundance and diversity based on the catch data for 76 different species.
Studying spatial distribution of young fish based on the station data from 81 survey locations.
Comparing fishing gear efficiency based on the described use of a 2m beam trawl with a shrimp net.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 81 stations, providing multiple spatial data points.
76 different species were recorded, indicating broad taxonomic coverage.
Data includes multiple types: station, catch, length, and biological data for key species.
Clear temporal scope: survey took place between 27/08/2006 and 07/09/2006.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale ML.
