The U.S. Geological Survey and NOAA contracted Aerial Surveying, Inc. to collect lidar-derived elevation data over low-lying areas in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands during summer 2010. The dataset for Laysan Island contains classified point clouds in LAS 1.2 format, with points categorized as Unclassified, Ground, or Water. In April 2011, NOAA deployed a survey crew to collect high-accuracy GPS points to validate the lidar data.
Data is in LAS 1.2 format; specialized software for point cloud analysis is required. Work was conducted under permit number PMNM-2010-033.
