Description
North Sea survey data from 263 stations collected by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) between August and September 2012. The dataset includes catch, length, and biological data for 184 species, alongside benthic samples and environmental measurements like water temperature and salinity. It was conducted from the CEFAS Endeavour research vessel using standardized trawls and sensors to support EU data regulations and the International Bottom Trawl Survey.
Use Cases
Modeling fish stock composition and distribution based on catch data from 75 core trawl stations.
Analyzing correlations between species presence and environmental factors like water temperature and salinity.
Studying benthic community structure based on recorded benthic catches.
Supporting international fisheries management and policy based on standardized survey methods aligned with EU regulations.
Strengths
Data collected from 263 stations, providing broad spatial coverage for the survey period.
Records information for 184 different species, offering a wide taxonomic scope.
Includes multiple data types: station, catch, length, biological, benthic, and environmental (temperature, salinity, litter).
Uses standardized equipment and methods (e.g., GOV trawls) as part of an ongoing international survey program.
Limitations
Row count and column-level documentation are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
Data may reflect temporal and geographic bias inherent to a single survey cruise in the North Sea during Q3 2012.
Provenance
Source
Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas), collected via the CEFAS Endeavour research vessel.
Collection Method
