Description
This geospatial dataset tracks the movement path of Tropical Cyclone 03A across the Somali region of Puntland during 2013. Produced by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC), the records document a storm that reached wind speeds of 74 kph and caused 100-200mm of rainfall. The data covers the trajectory from the Indian Ocean to the Somali coast, including impact zones in districts such as Dangorayo, Bandar Beyla, and Garowe.
Use Cases
Mapping the 2013 TC03A trajectory using GEOJSON or SHP files to visualize storm movement over Somalia
Analyzing the spatial correlation between the storm path and affected districts like Eyl and Garowe
Integrating wind speed and rainfall estimates into historical climate risk models for the Horn of Africa
Strengths
Provides specific geospatial coordinates for a rare cyclone event in Somalia
Available in four formats including SHP, GEOJSON, CSV, and XLSX
Includes specific meteorological context such as 74 kph wind speeds and 100-200mm rainfall estimates
Limitations
Specific column names and row counts are not provided in the metadata
Focuses exclusively on a single historical event from 2013
Lacks granular socio-economic impact metrics at the individual record level
