Description
An oil and gas industry exploration drilling, semi-sub rig site survey acquired under licence P2318 between October and November 2017. The survey was conducted by Statoil and traversed UK North Sea blocks 15/9, 15/10, 15/14, and 15/15. The dataset is hosted by the British Geological Survey (BGS) and was last updated in April 2026.
Use Cases
Assess seabed conditions for rig positioning based on the site survey data
Map geological hazards for offshore drilling based on the described survey blocks
Analyze historical exploration activity in UK North Sea blocks 15/9, 15/10, 15/14, and 15/15
Strengths
Specific temporal coverage from October to November 2017
Clearly defined spatial coverage across four UK North Sea blocks
Dataset originates from a major operator (Statoil) and is curated by the British Geological Survey
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count and file format are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific survey blocks
