Description
21st Century Exploration RoadMap Palaeozoic Petroleum Systems Analysis Project products describe the Palaeozoic geology and conventional petroleum potential in and around the Mid North Sea High. The British Geological Survey produced these peer-reviewed reports, images, and GIS products between November 2014 and May 2016, integrating interpretations of well, seismic, gravity-magnetic, and source rock data. The datasets are applicable for use at scales between 1:750,000 to 1:3,000,000.
Use Cases
Regional basin modelling based on integrated well, seismic, and source rock interpretations.
Mapping petroleum system elements based on GIS and gridded geological products.
Stimulating exploration activity based on analysis of underexplored Devonian and Carboniferous rocks.
Conducting petrophysical studies based on collated and interpreted data from the Central North Sea.
Strengths
Peer-reviewed products produced by the British Geological Survey.
Analysis based on integration of extensive well, seismic, gravity-magnetic, and source rock datasets.
Covers a large area of the Central North Sea from the Forth Approaches to the northern side of the Southern North Sea.
Project conducted between November 2014 and May 2016 with a defined scope.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Unreleased raw data is excluded, as is the UK Government Seismic data released in 2016.
Provenance
Source
British Geological Survey (BGS) for DECC/OGA, Oil and Gas UK and oil company sponsors.
Collection Method
Collation and interpretation of released data; interpretations of unreleased data included with agreement of data owners.
Time Range
Project period: November 2014 to May 2016.
