Description
Reports, images, and GIS products describe the Palaeozoic geology and petroleum systems of UK offshore areas, including the Mid North Sea High and Irish Sea. The peer-reviewed products were produced by the British Geological Survey between November 2014 and May 2016 to stimulate exploration. The analysis integrated interpretations of well, seismic, gravity-magnetic, and source rock data with basin modelling.
Use Cases
Regional basin modelling based on integrated well, seismic, and source rock data mentioned in the description
Mapping Palaeozoic hydrocarbon play fairways based on GIS and gridded geological products
Assessing exploration potential in underexplored Devonian and Carboniferous intervals described for specific offshore basins
Strengths
Products are peer-reviewed and based on integration of multiple data types including seismic and well data
Analysis covers multiple specific offshore regions including the Central North Sea and Moray Firth
Designed for use at regional scales between 1:750,000 to 1:3,000,000
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Unreleased raw data and UK Government Seismic data from 2016 are excluded
