Description
Photometric calibration for the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) was performed using observations of 35 regular and 5 special calibration fields made at regular intervals during nightly survey operations. The merged source tables contain mean positions, magnitudes, and uncertainties for sources detected multiple times, with merging performed using a positional autocorrelation within a 1.5" radius. The data was produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, with metadata last updated on March 13, 2026.
Use Cases
Calibrating infrared photometric surveys based on derived zero point offsets and atmospheric extinction coefficients.
Analyzing source variability or motion based on the confirmation statistics provided in the merged tables.
Studying stellar populations in the Magellanic Clouds using the deep observation campaign data from late 2000 to early 2001.
Strengths
Calibration fields were scanned between 562 and 3,692 times in photometric conditions, suggesting high observational density.
Merging was performed using a precise positional autocorrelation within a 1.5" radius, which likely improves source identification accuracy.
Includes data from a dedicated deep observation campaign (6x) towards the end of survey operations for the Magellanic Clouds.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale analysis.
The description metadata is limited; actual data quality and completeness require manual inspection.
