A preclinical study investigating the hypothesis that chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) involves increased purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNPase) activity. The research tested the endogenous PNPase inhibitor 8-aminoguanine (8-AG) for preventing and reversing paclitaxel-induced mechanical hypersensitivity and nerve fiber loss in a model. Findings suggest PNPase inhibition reduces oxidative injury and cellular damage associated with paclitaxel treatment.
