Multibeam sonar, drill cores, and video data from the Australian Ocean Data Network confirm a previously unknown coral reef province in Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria. The dataset documents seven mapped reefs, with evidence suggesting up to 50 may exist, providing U/Th ages showing growth from around 10.5 to 8.0 thousand years before present. This research, published as a scientific journal paper, identifies these as the oldest known reefs in Australia.
