Geoscience Australia conducted a regional assessment of geological CO2 storage potential in the Browse Basin, offshore northwest Australia, between 2013 and 2015. The study integrated data from over 60 wells, regional 2D and 3D seismic surveys, and potential field data to assess storage plays, focusing on the Cretaceous succession to minimize conflict with hydrocarbon resources. Results indicate the Lower Cretaceous basin margin and Upper Cretaceous confined submarine fan plays are more prospective for CO2 storage.
