A 1986 aerial survey of the east Tasmanian coastline from Musselroe Bay to South East Cape mapped 10 km² of Macrocystis pyrifera kelp forest. The data, managed by the Australian Ocean Data Network, estimates a harvestable yield of 12,300 tonnes based on historical company records from 1965-1972. Weight per unit area was also estimated from quadrats harvested at several coastal sites.
Data is provided in geospatial formats (WMS, WFS, HTML, PNG); specialized GIS software may be required for full analysis.
