Description
Results from geological mapping of four 1:50,000 map areas north of Whitehorse are presented. The bulletin establishes stratigraphic nomenclature and describes 16 units of layered rocks, portions of adjacent terranes, and provides biostratigraphic and isotopic age constraints. It is published by the Government of Yukon.
Use Cases
Stratigraphic analysis based on descriptions of 16 layered rock units
Tectonic history reconstruction based on episodic depositional history characteristic of an island arc environment
Mineral deposit potential mapping based on identified regions of favourable geology for copper-gold skarns and gold-quartz veins
Plutonic suite classification based on five defined suites recording Early Jurassic, mid-Cretaceous and Early Tertiary magmatic epochs
Biostratigraphic correlation based on ammonite zones and mixed Tethyan-Boreal faunal assemblages
Strengths
Describes 16 distinct units of layered rocks
Provides biostratigraphic and isotopic age constraints for almost all units
Defines five plutonic suites based on isotopic dates
Identifies regions of favourable geology for several types of mineral deposits
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific map areas
