Description
74 study sites across Alaska, USA, and western Canada are covered by Level 1 polarimetric radar backscattering coefficient data. The dataset contains 139 data takes from the UAVSAR P-band SAR radar instrument, collected during flight campaigns from May to August 2017 onboard a NASA Gulfstream-III aircraft. The data products are multi-look complex, polarimetrically calibrated, and georeferenced.
Use Cases
Analyze polarimetric radar backscattering coefficients (Sigma-0) for land cover classification
Study georeferenced radar data for spatial pattern analysis across Alaska and Canada
Calibrate or validate other remote sensing models using the provided polarimetrically calibrated data
Investigate temporal changes in radar signatures from the multiple data takes per site
Strengths
139 data takes provide multiple observations for many of the 74 study sites
Data is polarimetrically calibrated and georeferenced, suggesting a processed, ready-to-use state
Coverage spans a significant geographic area across Alaska and western Canada
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic/temporal bias inherent to the specific 2017 flight campaigns
