Description
July and September 2019 land cover classification maps for the Peace-Athabasca Delta in Canada. The dataset contains four 5-meter resolution maps with 10 classes, derived from AVIRIS-NG, UAVSAR, and LiDAR data. The best-performing model, combining all three data sources, achieved an overall accuracy of 93.5%.
Use Cases
Classifying wetland vegetation communities based on spectral and radar data
Comparing classification accuracy of different sensor combinations (AVIRIS-NG, UAVSAR, LiDAR)
Monitoring changes in open water and emergent aquatic vegetation types
Validating remote sensing models with field-collected ground truth data
Strengths
High-resolution 5-meter classification maps
High overall model accuracy of 93.5% for the combined sensor model
Includes 10 distinct land cover classes, including water, vegetation, and forest
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the single delta study area
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Collection Method
Derived from Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer-Next Generation (AVIRIS-NG), Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar (UAVSAR), and historical LiDAR archive data.
