Description
Late 2014 estimates of aboveground biomass, canopy cover, canopy height, landcover, and a forest degradation index for forests in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The data were produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration by integrating field sampling, airborne lidar, satellite measurements, and a land cover map using a random forest algorithm.
Use Cases
Modeling forest carbon stocks based on aboveground biomass estimates.
Assessing forest health and degradation based on the forest degradation index.
Analyzing landcover change and forest structure using canopy cover and height data.
Strengths
Data integrates multiple sources including field sampling, airborne lidar, and satellite measurements.
Estimates are produced for a specific, defined time period (late 2014).
The methodology uses a random forest algorithm for integration.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and data scale are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
