Late 2014 estimates for aboveground biomass, canopy cover, height, landcover, and a forest degradation index across Kalimantan's forests. Data were produced by ORNL_CLOUD using a random forest algorithm that integrated field sampling, airborne lidar, and satellite measurements. This dataset provides a snapshot of forest structure and condition for the Indonesian part of Borneo.
Use Cases
- Estimating carbon stocks from the aboveground biomass field for climate change models.
- Mapping forest degradation patterns using the forest degradation index product.
- Analyzing relationships between canopy cover and landcover classifications.
- Validating satellite-derived biomass models with integrated field and lidar data.
- Assessing regional forest structure through the mean canopy height metric.
Strengths
- Integrates multiple data sources: field sampling, airborne lidar, and satellite measurements.
- Provides a specific snapshot of forest conditions for late 2014.
- Includes a derived forest degradation index product for analysis.
Limitations
- Data is temporally static, representing only late 2014 conditions.
- Geographic scope is limited to Kalimantan, Indonesia.
- The underlying sample size and spatial resolution of source data are unknown.
