Description
Over 20 distinct data fields capture details of traffic accidents reported in municipalities under agreement with the Road Safety Management of Antioquia. The dataset includes victim counts by role, accident causes, location specifics, and weather conditions. Data is published by datos.gov.co, with records from 2014 and an annual update, current through December 31, 2023.
Use Cases
Predict GRAVEDAD (severity) using features like CAUSANTE ACCIDENTE (cause), CLASE ACCIDENTE (accident class), and ESTADO CLIMA (weather condition).
Analyze spatial patterns of accidents by joining on MUNICIPIO and ZONA ACCIDENTE (zone) to identify high-risk areas.
Model temporal trends in accident frequency and victim counts using FECHA ACCIDENTE (date) and HORA ACCIDENTE (time).
Assess the impact of road objects on accidents by analyzing DESCRIPCIÓN OBJETO FIJO (fixed object description) and victim type columns (e.g., NUMERO VICTIMA PEATÓN).
Strengths
Dataset contains 21 detailed columns per accident record, including multiple victim type classifications.
Provides a decade of temporal coverage with data from 2014 to 2023.
Limitations
The total number of accident records (rows) is unknown, making it difficult to assess statistical power.
Data coverage is limited to municipalities with specific administrative agreements, not the entire Antioquia department.
Sample data is unavailable, preventing immediate assessment of data distributions and null values.
