Description
ADEOS-I OCTS Level-2 Regional Inherent Optical Properties (IOP) Data, version 2022.0, provides per-pixel inherent optical properties retrieved from satellite-measured Remote Sensing Reflectance. The data, from the OB_CLOUD organization, includes coefficients for total absorption, phytoplankton absorption, and particulate backscattering, among other variables. It was last updated on 1997-06-30.
Use Cases
Classifying water types based on inherent optical properties like absorption and backscattering coefficients.
Assessing water clarity and quality using the total absorption and backscattering coefficients.
Conducting biogeochemical studies by analyzing phytoplankton absorption (aph_443) and CDOM/detritus absorption (adg_443).
Performing cross-sensor comparisons for satellite ocean color data using the IOP framework.
Supporting forward and adjoint radiative-transfer applications with per-pixel optical property inputs.
Strengths
Provides a suite of geophysical variables including total absorption (a), total backscattering (bb), and phytoplankton absorption at 443 nm (aph_443).
Includes uncertainty estimates for key variables like aph_unc_443 and bbp_unc_443.
Derived using the Generalized Inherent Optical Properties (GIOP) model framework, which supports robust cross-sensor comparisons.
