FAO soil suitability maps classify African soils for lowland and upland crop irrigation using a detailed ranking system. Data integrates soil maps, geological atlases, and climate maps at a 1:5 million scale. The dataset was compiled by FAO/UNESCO in 1987 from source maps created in the 1970s.
Data uses a complex suitability ranking system where a single soil unit can contain multiple components, with suitability expressed as a percentage of the unit. Projection is Miller Oblated Stereographic.
