Description
Agricultural Land Classification survey data for the Emley site in Kirklees, produced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food between 1989 and 1999. The dataset includes scanned original paper maps, survey reports, and for some surveys, unedited sample point soils data and soil pit descriptions. It uses the grading methodology from 'Agricultural Land Classification of England and Wales' and maps land grades, including the subdivision of Grade 3 into subgrades 3a and 3b.
Use Cases
Classify agricultural land capability based on detailed soil survey reports.
Analyze spatial distribution of land grades, including Grade 3 subdivisions, using scanned maps.
Model soil characteristics and limitations for specific sites using unedited sample point data.
Assess historical land quality for planning and environmental impact studies.
Strengths
Data collection follows the established national methodology described in 'Agricultural Land Classification of England and Wales'.
Includes subdivision of Grade 3 land into subgrades 3a and 3b for more granular analysis.
For some surveys, provides raw, unedited sample point soils data and soil pit descriptions.
