Description
Post 1988 Agricultural Land Classification survey data for the Teynham, Station Road site surveyed between 1989 and 1999 by the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food. The data includes scanned original paper maps and reports, mapping land grades from 1:5,000 to 1:50,000 scale, and for some surveys includes unedited sample point soils data and soil pit descriptions. The dataset is provided by Natural England and contains Ordnance Survey data.
Use Cases
Assess agricultural land quality for planning based on detailed site survey reports
Analyze soil characteristics for specific locations based on available soil pit descriptions
Map land grade subdivisions (e.g., Grade 3a and 3b) based on the survey methodology
Compare land classification across different survey scales (1:5,000 to 1:50,000)
Strengths
Survey data uses the current grading methodology as described in 'Agricultural Land Classification of England and Wales'
Includes subdivision of Grade 3 into subgrades 3a and 3b for more granular analysis
For some surveys, provides unedited sample point soils data and soil pit descriptions
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to surveys conducted between 1989 and 1999
