Description
Two surveyed sites in Gulf St Vincent, South Australia, were mapped for bathymetric reference in September 2020. The Australian Hydrographic Office contracted this survey to calibrate multibeam echosounders, using Kongsberg EM 2040 and EA440 echosounders. Processed data is provided as 1-meter resolution GeoTIFF grids in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounder systems based on the high-resolution reference surfaces.
Analyzing seafloor morphology in Gulf St Vincent based on the 1-meter resolution bathymetric grids.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for marine charting applications based on the separate provided grids.
Strengths
High-resolution 1-meter grid cells for detailed bathymetric representation.
Data processed using industry-standard Caris HIPS & SIPS software.
Provides separate surfaces for three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic/temporal bias inherent to data_gov_au.
