Description
Two high-resolution bathymetric grids for Gulf St Vincent, South Australia, were created from a 2020 survey for the Australian Hydrographic Office. The data was acquired using Kongsberg multibeam and singlebeam echosounders and processed with Caris HIPS & SIPS. Separate 1-meter resolution GeoTIFF files are provided for two sites in three vertical datums: Mean Sea Level, Lowest Astronomical Tide, and Ellipsoid.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the described purpose of the contracted national reference survey.
Modeling seafloor topography for marine research based on the high-resolution bathymetric grids.
Comparing vertical datum transformations (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) based on the three separate grids provided.
Strengths
High spatial resolution of 1 meter per grid cell.
Data processed using industry-standard software (Caris HIPS & SIPS).
Provides multiple vertical reference datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for the same area.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to data_gov_au, being limited to two sites in Gulf St Vincent.
Provenance
