Description
A high-resolution bathymetry survey of Banks Strait to Cape Barren, Tasmania, conducted for the Australian Hydrographic Office on 17 December 2021. The dataset provides 0.5-meter resolution grids in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums, processed from data acquired using Kongsberg EM 2040 multibeam echosounders. It was created for calibrating multibeam echosounders under the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the described reference surfaces.
Analyzing seafloor topography based on high-resolution bathymetric grids.
Creating nautical charts for research purposes based on detailed depth data.
Studying coastal and marine geomorphology in Tasmanian waters based on the specified survey area.
Strengths
High 0.5-meter spatial resolution for detailed seafloor mapping.
Provides grids in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Data acquired using specific, professional-grade Kongsberg EM 2040 multibeam echosounders.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Explicitly stated as 'not to be used for navigational purposes', restricting its primary application.
