Description
A 0.5m resolution bathymetry grid was created from a survey conducted between 25 and 26 September 2020 for the Australian Hydrographic Office. The survey, part of the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program, covered an area between Gantheaume Point and Talboys Rock, Broome, Western Australia. Data was acquired using a Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam echosounder and processed with Caris HIPS & SIPS, then exported as a 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the high-resolution reference surface described.
Analyzing seabed morphology and depth variations based on the 0.5m resolution bathymetric grid.
Modeling tidal datums and vertical reference frames based on the MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums provided.
Creating base maps for marine spatial planning in the Broome, Western Australia region.
Strengths
Provides a high-resolution 0.5m grid specifically for sensor calibration purposes.
Includes data referenced to three vertical datums: MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid.
Acquired using a specific, industry-standard Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam system.
Processed with Caris HIPS & SIPS, a standard hydrographic processing suite.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count and exact spatial bounds are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Explicitly not for navigational purposes, restricting its operational use case.
Provenance
Source
Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO), via Geoscience Australia Data.
