Description
A 0.5m resolution bathymetric grid was acquired for the Australian Hydrographic Office over two days in September 2020. The survey, conducted between Gantheaume Point and Talboys Rock in Broome, WA, was processed using Caris HIPS & SIPS and Kongsberg EM 2040D equipment. This dataset provides grids in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums for calibrating multibeam echosounders.
Use Cases
Calibrate multibeam echosounder systems based on high-resolution reference bathymetry.
Analyze seabed topography based on 0.5m resolution geospatial grids.
Compare vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for marine surveying applications.
Validate bathymetric survey results against a contracted national reference surface.
Strengths
High-resolution 0.5m grid derived from Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam data.
Survey conducted over a defined two-day period (25-26 Sep 2020) for consistency.
Provides data in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes.
