Description
A high-resolution bathymetry survey conducted for the Australian Hydrographic Office between 25 and 26 September 2020. The surface was created from a contracted national reference survey between Gantheaume Point and Talboys Rock, Broome, Western Australia, for calibrating multibeam echosounders. The dataset is provided as a 0.5-meter resolution, 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF grid exported in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the high-resolution reference surface.
Modeling seafloor topography based on the 0.5-meter resolution bathymetric grid.
Analyzing vertical datum transformations based on the MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid data provided.
Supporting marine spatial planning in the Broome, WA region based on the surveyed area.
Strengths
High spatial resolution of 0.5 meters for detailed seafloor representation.
Data collected with a specific Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam echosounder and processed using Caris HIPS & SIPS software.
Provides data in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility in analysis.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count and total file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting its application scope.
Provenance
Source
Australian Hydrographic Office via the Australian Ocean Data Network.
