Description
Cairns, Queensland bathymetry data from a 2020 survey for the Australian Hydrographic Office. The dataset comprises three separate 0.5m resolution grids for surveyed sites, exported as 32-bit floating point GeoTIFFs in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums. It was acquired using an R2Sonic 2022 multibeam echosounder and processed with Caris HIPS & SIPS software under the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounder systems based on the reference survey purpose stated in the description
Modeling high-resolution seafloor topography based on the 0.5m bathymetric grids
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for hydrographic applications based on the separate grids provided
Assessing coastal bathymetric changes over time when combined with other surveys
Strengths
High-resolution 0.5m grid cells for detailed seafloor representation
Provides three separate grids for different vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid)
Data processed with industry-standard Caris HIPS & SIPS software
Acquired using a specific R2Sonic 2022 multibeam echosounder system
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes
