Description
Cairns, Queensland bathymetry data acquired for the Australian Hydrographic Office on 27 May 2020. This surface was created from a contracted national reference survey for calibrating multibeam echosounders, processed using Caris HIPS & SIPS. The dataset includes separate 0.5m resolution grids for three surveyed sites in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums, exported as a 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounder systems based on the high-resolution reference surfaces.
Analyzing seafloor topography in Cairns, Queensland based on the 0.5m resolution bathymetry grids.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for marine surveying applications based on the separate provided grids.
Strengths
High-resolution 0.5m grid data for precise bathymetric modeling.
Provides data in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility in analysis.
Acquired using specific, modern equipment (R2Sonic 2022) and processed with industry-standard software (Caris HIPS & SIPS).
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
