Description
Darwin, Australia, bathymetry survey data acquired for the Australian Hydrographic Office on 8 July 2020. The surface was created from a contracted national reference survey to calibrate multibeam echosounders, processed using QPS Qimera. It provides separate 0.5m resolution grids for two surveyed sites in multiple vertical datums, exported as a 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the high-resolution reference surfaces.
Modeling seafloor topography based on the 0.5m resolution bathymetric grids.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) based on the separate provided grids.
Conducting marine spatial analysis based on the georeferenced GeoTIFF format.
Strengths
High 0.5m spatial resolution for detailed seafloor representation.
Data provided in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Acquired using specific R2Sonic 2026 and 2024 multibeam systems, suggesting standardized collection.
Processed with industry-standard QPS Qimera software.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The description explicitly states the dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes.
Provenance
Source
Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) via the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Collection Method
Acquired via the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program using R2Sonic multibeam echosounders and processed with QPS Qimera.
Time Range
Survey acquired on 8 July 2020.
