Description
AHO Reference Surfaces Hobart 0.5m and 1m 2023 is a bathymetry dataset from a survey acquired for the Australian Hydrographic Office between 10 October and 8 November 2021. The surface was created from a contracted national reference survey in Hobart, Tasmania, specifically for calibrating multibeam echosounders. The data is provided as separate grids in 0.5m and 1m resolutions for two sites, referenced to MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums, and exported as 32-bit floating point GeoTIFFs.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounder systems based on the described reference surfaces.
Analyzing seafloor topography based on high-resolution 0.5m and 1m bathymetric grids.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for marine surveying applications based on the provided separate grids.
Supporting hydrographic research and charting in the Hobart, Tasmania area based on the described survey.
Strengths
Data was acquired using a specific, high-grade sensor (Kongsberg EM2040D).
Provides multiple vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for the same survey area.
Offers high-resolution grids at both 0.5m and 1m resolutions.
Processing was done with specialized hydrographic software (QPS Qimera).
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
