Description
Bathymetry data from Hobart, Tasmania, collected for the Australian Hydrographic Office between October 10 and November 8, 2021. The surface was created from a contracted national reference survey for calibrating multibeam echosounders. Separate grids in 0.5m and 1m resolutions are provided for two surveyed sites in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datum.
Use Cases
Calibrate multibeam echosounder systems based on high-resolution reference bathymetry surfaces.
Analyze seabed topography in Hobart based on 0.5m and 1m resolution GeoTIFF grids.
Compare vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for marine surveying applications.
Validate bathymetric survey data processing workflows using QPS Qimera outputs.
Strengths
Survey conducted with a Kongsberg EM2040D multibeam system, a specific high-precision instrument.
Data processed using QPS Qimera, a specific industry-standard software.
Grids are provided in three specific vertical datums: MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid.
Data exported as 32-bit floating point GeoTIFFs, a specific high-precision raster format.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting its application scope.
Provenance
Source
Australian Hydrographic Office via the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program.
