Description
Rottnest Island, Western Australia, is the location for this high-resolution bathymetric reference surface. The dataset was created from a survey conducted on 11 December 2022 for the Australian Hydrographic Office using a Kongsberg EM2040P multibeam echosounder. It provides separate 0.5m and 2m resolution grids for two sites in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid), processed with Caris HIPS & SIPS.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounder systems based on the described high-precision reference surface.
Validating bathymetric processing algorithms using the provided 0.5m and 2m resolution grids.
Analyzing seafloor morphology near Rottnest Island based on the detailed bathymetric data.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for hydrographic applications using the separate provided grids.
Strengths
Provides very high-resolution 0.5m and 2m bathymetric grids.
Survey conducted with a specific, named instrument (Kongsberg EM2040P) on a known date (11 December 2022).
Data processed with industry-standard software (Caris HIPS & SIPS).
Offers data in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data may reflect geographic/temporal bias inherent to a single survey area and date.
