Description
A high-resolution bathymetric reference surface derived from a survey conducted for the Australian Hydrographic Office on 11 December 2022. The data was collected adjacent to Rottnest Island, Western Australia, specifically for calibrating multibeam echosounders. Separate 0.5m and 2m resolution grids are provided in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums as 32-bit floating point GeoTIFFs.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the high-resolution reference surface.
Validating bathymetric survey data against a known reference standard.
Analyzing seafloor morphology using the 0.5m and 2m resolution grids.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for hydrographic applications.
Strengths
Provides a high-resolution 0.5m grid for detailed analysis.
Survey was conducted with a specific Kongsberg EM2040P multibeam system.
Data is processed using the industry-standard Caris HIPS & SIPS software.
Offers grids in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The description explicitly states the dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes.
