Description
Rottnest Island, Western Australia, is the location for this high-resolution bathymetric reference surface. The Australian Hydrographic Office contracted the survey on 11 December 2022 for calibrating multibeam echosounders. Separate 0.5m and 2m resolution grids are provided in three vertical datums: MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid.
Use Cases
Calibrate multibeam echosounder systems based on the high-resolution reference surface.
Validate bathymetric data processing pipelines based on the surveyed reference sites.
Analyze seafloor morphology near Rottnest Island based on the detailed bathymetry grids.
Compare vertical datum transformations based on the MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid versions provided.
Strengths
Provides high-resolution 0.5m and 2m grids for precise calibration.
Survey conducted with a specific Kongsberg EM2040P multibeam system.
Data processed using the industry-standard Caris HIPS & SIPS software.
Offers data in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
