Description
A high-resolution bathymetry survey of the Torres Strait, acquired for the Australian Hydrographic Office on 12 December 2021. The surface was created from a contracted national reference survey between Goods Island and Tuesday Island, collected for calibrating multibeam echosounders. The data is provided as separate 0.5m resolution grids for two surveyed sites in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datums, exported as 32-bit floating point GeoTIFFs.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the described reference survey purpose.
Analyzing seabed topography based on high-resolution bathymetric grids.
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for marine charting applications.
Strengths
High 0.5-meter spatial resolution for detailed seabed modeling.
Data processed using specific industry software (QPS Qimera) and hardware (Kongsberg EM2040D).
Provides surfaces in three different vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count and total file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Provenance
Source
Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO), via the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Collection Method
Acquired via the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program using a Kongsberg EM2040D multibeam echosounder and processed with QPS Qimera.
