Description
A bathymetry survey for the Australian Hydrographic Office acquired on 12 Dec 2021. The surface was created from a contracted national reference survey between Goods Island and Tuesday Island, collected for calibrating multibeam echosounders. The dataset includes separate 0.5m resolution grids for two surveyed sites in MSL, LAT, and Ellipsoid vertical datum, exported as 32-bit floating point GeoTIFFs.
Use Cases
Calibrating multibeam echosounders based on the high-resolution reference surfaces mentioned in the description
Analyzing seafloor topography based on the 0.5m resolution bathymetric grids
Comparing vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for hydrographic applications based on the separate grids provided
Strengths
High-resolution 0.5m grid data for precise bathymetric representation
Data processed using specialized software (QPS Qimera) and acquired with a Kongsberg EM2040D sensor
Provides data in three vertical datums (MSL, LAT, Ellipsoid) for flexibility in analysis
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting its application scope
Provenance
Source
Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO), part of the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program
