Description
500 files describe air parcels retrieved from a large-eddy simulation of a deep convective cloud event observed on May 29, 2012, during the DC3 field campaign. The dataset, created by Roman Bardakov of Stockholm University, provides values for coordinates, velocity components, thermodynamic variables, and turbulence metrics for each parcel at every simulation time step.
Use Cases
Validate large-eddy simulation outputs against field campaign observations based on the detailed parcel trajectories.
Analyze the microphysical evolution of convective clouds based on water content and precipitation density variables.
Study turbulence and mixing processes in deep convection based on resolved and subgrid-scale turbulent kinetic energy fields.
Investigate parcel buoyancy and vertical velocity relationships to understand convective updraft dynamics.
Strengths
Contains 500 individual files, each representing a detailed parcel trajectory from a high-resolution simulation.
Provides a comprehensive set of 16 physical variables per parcel per time step, including dynamics, thermodynamics, and microphysics.
