Description
224 reference sites for aquatic health monitoring were collected from 2004 to 2010. The dataset supports a Reference Condition Approach model for bioassessment based on benthic macroinvertebrates, with data analyzed at the family level. It was developed by the University of Western Ontario, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Yukon Government.
Use Cases
Classify reference sites based on biological characteristics and taxonomic composition to define community types.
Determine habitat attributes associated with community types to predict organism numbers and types at a site.
Assess freshwater ecosystem health using the Reference Condition Approach model for benthic macroinvertebrates.
Analyze invertebrate data at the family level for bioassessment and monitoring of water quality objectives.
Strengths
Contains data from 224 reference sites.
Data collected over a 7-year period from 2004 to 2010.
Uses a standard protocol for sampling across all sites.
Limitations
Sample data and specific column structure are unavailable for review.
Temporal coverage ends in 2010, limiting analysis of recent trends.
Focus is geographically limited to the Yukon region.
