Description
IFPRI provides cleaned survey data and analysis code from a study assessing the Joint Program on Rural Women's Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE) in Ethiopia, Niger, Nepal, and Kyrgyzstan. The dataset measures women's empowerment outcomes using pro-WEAI indicators, which apply stricter adequacy cut-offs than A-WEAI and extend beyond agriculture. It includes panel data for Ethiopia and Niger, and cross-sectional data for Nepal and Kyrgyzstan, each with a locally tailored comparison group.
Use Cases
Analyzing changes in women's empowerment scores over time based on the panel data from Ethiopia and Niger.
Comparing empowerment outcomes and intrahousehold inequality measures across different country contexts.
Evaluating the impact of the JP RWEE program using the pro-WEAI indicators and comparison group data.
Reproducing the statistical analyses from the Quisumbing et al. (2023) study using the provided do-files.
Strengths
Includes panel data tracking 723 households in Ethiopia across two survey rounds from 2016-2019.
Applies the pro-WEAI framework, which uses stricter adequacy cut-offs and covers non-agricultural livelihood activities.
Contains data from four distinct countries (Ethiopia, Niger, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan) with sample sizes ranging from 580 to 1,946 households.
Provides the final cleaned datasets and reproducible do-files used for the published analysis.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
