83,354 singleton births from the Japan Environment and Children’s Study (JECS) form a cohort dataset analyzing associations between maternal hemoglobin concentration and placental weight, birthweight, and their ratio. The study, funded by Japan's Ministry of the Environment, applied regression analyses with restricted cubic splines to the data. It found a U-shaped relationship between maternal hemoglobin concentration and the placental weight to birthweight ratio.
