Description
Geoscience Australia Data produced the Australia’s Future Energy Resources (AFER) Project dataset, which provides a regional geological interpretation of the Pedirka and western Eromanga basins. The dataset, last updated in April 2026, resulted from the Exploring For The Future program and integrates biostratigraphic and reprocessed seismic data. It investigates energy resource potential and carbon storage suitability, revising stratigraphic basin boundaries and depositional history from the Paleozoic to the Late Cretaceous.
Use Cases
Modeling hydrocarbon reservoir potential based on described fluvial-lacustrine and coal-bearing sedimentary sequences.
Assessing geological carbon storage suitability based on the mapped extent and character of sedimentary sections.
Conducting regional stratigraphic correlation based on revised basin definitions and unconformity mapping.
Analyzing depositional environment changes from Permian to Cretaceous based on described seismic and palynological data.
Strengths
Interpretation is based on new biostratigraphic and reprocessed seismic data, providing updated insights.
The dataset revises stratigraphic basin boundaries, including the reassignment of the Walkandi and Peera Peera Formations.
Covers a long temporal range, with sedimentary records from the early Paleozoic to the Late Cretaceous.
Limitations
Data is provided in PDF format, which may limit machine-readability and direct analysis.
Column-level documentation and sample data are unavailable, requiring manual inspection after download.
The row count and specific file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale computational projects.
