Description
The Pedirka and western Eromanga basins region in Australia was investigated by the Australia’s Future Energy Resources (AFER) project. The dataset likely contains interpretations from biostratigraphic and reprocessed seismic data, providing insights into the Permian, Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous depositional history. It was produced by the Australian Ocean Data Network as part of the Exploring For The Future program.
Use Cases
Evaluate hydrocarbon resource potential based on descriptions of fluvial-lacustrine sediments and coal-bearing strata
Assess carbon dioxide storage suitability based on the evaluation of sedimentary sections mentioned in the description
Model regional stratigraphy based on new correlations and revised basin boundaries
Analyze depositional history based on mapped unconformities and changes from braided to meandering river systems
Strengths
Interpretations are based on new biostratigraphic and reprocessed seismic data
Provides an improved understanding of unconformities from palynological analysis and seismic horizon mapping
Includes a comprehensive review of previously established basin definitions
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data is provided in PDF format, which may hinder direct analysis
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
Collection Method
Interpretation of biostratigraphic and reprocessed seismic data, palynological analysis, and seismic horizon mapping.
