Description
5,890 radio sources above a 40 mJy flux-density limit were cataloged in the Australia Telescope 20-GHz Survey (AT20G), a blind survey covering the sky south of declination 0 degrees from 2004 to 2008. The catalog, created by NASA HEASARC in 2010, includes total intensity and polarisation measurements at 20 GHz for all sources, with most sources south of -15 degrees also having flux-density measurements at 5 and 8 GHz. The authors report a catalog reliability of essentially 100% due to visual inspection of each source.
Use Cases
Analyze the population and distribution of high-frequency radio sources based on the 20 GHz flux-density measurements.
Study polarisation properties of radio sources based on the 1,559 sources detected in polarised total intensity.
Cross-match and compare spectral indices using the near-simultaneous 5 and 8 GHz flux-density measurements for southern sources.
Assess catalog completeness for statistical studies based on the reported 91% completeness above 100 mJy/beam in southern regions.
Strengths
Catalog includes 5,890 sources, an order of magnitude larger than previous high-frequency radio source catalogs.
Reliability is reported as essentially 100% due to visual inspection of each detected source.
Includes polarisation measurements at 20 GHz for all sources and multi-frequency data (5, 8, 20 GHz) for most southern sources.
Limitations
Catalog completeness is lower north of declination -15 degrees due to lost observations from bad weather.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for some statistical tasks.
